今回は、Sabrina Carpenterが本日7月7日にリリースしたばかりのニューシングル、"Why" の和訳をします。
この曲は、カバー写真が半分に切られているデザインだということで話題になっていました(その理由は和訳を見ればわかっていただけると思います)。
この曲はラブソングといえばラブソングの分類に入ると思います。でも、Sabrinaらしくちょっとひねってある素敵な歌です。
どうやって人は惹かれあったりするのかということを歌っています。
彼女の歌にはつきものの、解釈が難しい表現が "Why" にもやっぱりあり、翻訳は難しかったです。

Sabrinaはこの曲のタイトル "Why" についてこう語っています。
"Why" is a question we seem to pose daily, so there are multiple meanings within the song that are up to interpretation.
"Why(なぜ)"は私たちが毎日掲げているような質問なので、歌の解釈にはいろいろな仕方があるわ。We don’t necessarily need to be the same, to love the same.
同じ物を愛するのに、私たちが同じである必要はないの。Sometimes differences can hold us together and I think that’s a beautiful sentiment to how we deal with divergence and how it can furthermore prove our compatibility.
